What is a Digipak?

A digipack is a type of packaging used for CDs and DVDs, typically made from cardboard with one or more plastic trays to hold the disc(s). It is often used for music albums, films, or special edition releases. Digipacks are popular because they offer a more visually appealing and creative alternative to traditional jewel cases, providing extra space for artwork, photos, and promotional material. The design of a digipack plays a key role in branding, marketing, and audience engagement. The cover artwork, typography, and internal visuals help convey the identity of the artist or the content, establishing a visual theme or concept that resonates with the target audience. For example, a digipack for an album might feature a unique image or logo on the front cover that reflects the artist’s style or the music genre. Inside, it may include additional materials such as lyrics, exclusive photos, or credits, offering extra value to the consumer and deepening the connection between the ar...

Favorite music video : SHE by Tyler, the creator and Frank Ocean

Image
Why "She" is my favorite  "She" by Tyler, the Creator and Frank Ocean is my favorite music video because it perfectly blends unique music, storytelling, and cinematography to create a hypnotic experience. The song’s mix of R&B and hip-hop sets a smooth but unsettling tone that matches the video’s mysterious vibe. Tyler’s verses are intense and obsessive, while Frank Ocean’s vocals bring a calming contrast, creating a perfect balance between chaos and serenity. The cinematography is what makes the video feel like a short indie film. The use of lighting, with dark shadows and neon pops of green and orange, gives it a dreamlike quality that’s both eerie and beautiful. The suburban neighbourhood setting feels ordinary at first but quickly becomes unsettling, thanks to the way the camera captures it. Close-up shots of Tyler’s masked face make his obsession feel personal and intense, while wide shots of the empty streets add a sense of isolation and unease. The story...

Image
Music videos are short visual representations created to accompany a song. They typically feature a performance by the artist or follow a storyline or abstract visuals. Music videos fulfil several purposes ; they help promote songs or or music albums, making it more engaging for fans and audiences watching. Music videos also allow the director's or artist's artistic expressions and creative concepts to flow out. Music videos also convey stories through short film forms, this storytelling is a direct reflection of the lyrics in the song. Lastly, music videos also advertise artists' albums/singles. There are different types of music videos : 1.  Performance music videos : These are the most common kinds of music videos ; an artist is shown preforming his/her song. Research - Representation in Music Videos

Image
Representation in music videos refers to the ways in which people, events, ideas, and emotions are portrayed, reflecting or challenging societal norms and stereotypes. These representations can explore themes such as gender, race, culture, and identity. Artists and bands use their platforms and music to convey these messages. It’s also not always necessary that these representations are displayed in the song’s lyrics. In this blog post, I’ll explore 2 examples of music videos and what they represent.  1. God is a Woman - Ariana Grande This music video represents femininity as a divine, creative, and powerful force. It combines surreal imagery and mythological references to challenge patriarchal concepts of divinity and celebrate feminine strength.  Grande asserts that women can hold power over their lives and relationships, symbolising strength and independence, representing empowerment as well .  The video suggests that women embody divine power, with Ariana Grande depic...

SNAP OUT OF IT - ARCTIC MONKEYS  The music video for Snap Out of It presents an exploration of love, obsession, and heartbreak. It features a woman obsessively watching footage of the Arctic Monkeys, particularly frontman Alex Turner, while descending into an emotional breakdown. Her actions— crying, erratic dancing, and immersing herself in nostalgic memories—contrast with the nonchalant and carefree tone of the band's recording session. This juxtaposition creates an ironic commentary on emotional vulnerability and detachment in relationships. Representation of mental illness in the music video :  This music video depicts themes of emotional instability and obsessive behavior, which are often associated with unprocessed grief or heartbreak. The protagonist's actions—repeatedly watching the band on TV, pacing in distress, and crying uncontrollably—highlight a fixation on a past relationship. Her inability to "snap out of it" aligns with the song's narrative, illus...

Artists' Website Analysis

"DOJA CAT"  https://www.dojacat.com/ I decided to do a website analysis on Doja Cat's website because of her dark, 'dream-core' aesthetic and because I personally really like her music. Her aesthetic often incorporates moody visuals, edgy fashion, and surreal elements. This side of her style can include gothic-inspired looks, provocative imagery, highlighting a more introspective and complex side of her artistry. It evokes a sense of intrigue in her audiences as it heavily contrasts with her more playful persona.

Course Intro Brief

Understanding Media Studies  Media studies is the study of how different types of media, like TV, movies, and social media, affect people and society. It looks at how media is made, who controls it, and how it influences what people think or believe. Media studies also involves learning about how different groups of people are shown in media and how that can impact things like stereotypes. Students in media studies learn to analyse media content and understand how it shapes our views on things like culture, politics, and identity. It’s an important subject because media is everywhere today.  This year, we'll be focusing on music videos and my final project will also be a music video. Analysing music videos helps students recognise various techniques used by professionals, which they can then adapt or challenge in their own work. By combining creative skills with theoretical knowledge, media studies provides a strong foundation for students to develop music videos that are not ...

Introduction

Hello! My name is Muhjah Kashif, I’m currently 17 years old, living in islamabad, completing my last year of A’levels. I’m currently studying Media studies, Global perspectives, literature and Psychology. I also work as an actor ; I preformed in a drama, which aired on national television last year. I would like to say that my interest in media studies sparked after my experience on set last year. I became familiar with the practical side of media ; acting, preforming and filming, I then wanted to study the theoretical side, while also practising the practical aspect.  Other than that, I love travelling, reading books, cooking, listening to music, hiking, art (painting, candle making and drawing) and I also enjoy acting. I’ve visited 5 countries so far ; Dubai, Turkey, Kuwait, England and Malaysia, and I plan on travelling to more European countries in the future.  Anyways, here’s a picture of me :
