Final Portfolio : Personal Contribution

Right from the beginning of this project, I took on most of the responsibilities. I was heading the production and was in charge of constructing most of the narrative. Firstly, I chose the song for the music video pitched the idea to Dua and Raaniya, after they both agreed, i got started on building up the plot. I wanted the storyline to have a twist and so i started brainstorming for ideas. After deciding when to film and deciding on a location to film, I made a group chat with 35 people. I sent a formal message on the group chat asking everyone who was available to join in and help me and my team out in this project. 15-17 people got back to me and confirmed that they'd be there. I then shortlisted everyone, and contacted one of my friends to rent their camera. I also rented a gimbal as well. On the morning of the shoot my friend who was supposed to play the protagonist cancelled and said he wouldn't be able to make it. Because of this caveat I decided to take on the role of the protagonist myself. This was a sudden change as the concept of the music video revolves around the subject of a male lead. However, I managed to pull it off. 

After filming was complete I got started on editing. I extracted all the footage from my digital camera and the video camera and began compiling the shots together. After a couple days it was time to shoot my solo scenes. I then began further editing the music video after getting my solos shots filmed. During all of this I was simultaneously working on my blog. 

After the final draft of the video was done, I created a social media page and posted teasers and coming soon videos on it to get engagement and interaction from different audiences. 

So in conclusion, i would say i was mainly directing and managing the production and was also editing.

Preliminary Task #1 : Music Video

  Our music video was on the song “Ikisvi Sadi” by ‘Biryani Brothers’, a Pakistani band formed by Natasha Noorani and Zahra Paracha in 2014. We chose this song as it’s a representation of Pakistani culture and language.  PLOT : The music video starts of with the actor, Muhjah (me) singing along to the lyrics, explaining how she feels like nobody understands her. There’s shots of me completely alone in a room, laying down on a sofa, looking out the window and sitting on a chair. Then we introduced the other character, Dua, who is basically my hallucination. Raaniya plays the roll of my mother. We show her scolding me and trying to explain something to me.
